Awesome words: medical edition (part IV)

(Part I, Part II, Part III)

I know, I know, we’re not technically done neurology yet.  But we’re pretty much halfway at the end of this week (huzzah!) so you’re getting an early dose of awesome this block, lucky you!  To start off this one, here’s a fairly terrible neurology joke:

Knock knock.
Who’s there?
Your Uncle.
Uncle who?
Uncle herniation.

Badum pshhhh.

  • meningeal
  • vermis
  • zygoma
  • Cheyne-Stokes
  • hippocampus
  • nystagmus
  • hyoid
  • abducens
  • Wernicke
  • uncus
  • diencephalon
  • astrocyte
  • falx
  • contracoup
  • cingulate
  • tic
  • ipsilateral
  • amygdala
  • ataxia
  • Schwannoma
  • hemianopsia
  • colliculi

And my favourite neurology word so far:

  • SYNESTHESIA

Not only is it super cool to say (wrap your teeth around that “sth”), but it also represents a super cool condition where certain special senses are interpreted as other senses, like seeing colours when you hear music or associating Tuesday with a certain taste.

Awesome!
